Game Designer’s Club – Introduction

Have you ever had an amazing idea for a video game but had no idea on how to make it real? Well here is your chance! WACSS is proud to offer an introductory class into video game design. Students in the class will be taught about game design, programming, problem solving, logic, and much more. Since this is an introductory class, students all work on similar projects as they learn the basics of the program. The class uses GameMaker 8.1 for Windows for its software. It is available as a free download. Students are encouraged to download the program and work on their projects at home.

Prerequisites: Grades 5+, students must know some computer basics, must like math and logic, and must be able to focus for extended periods of time. This course is not recommended for children with behavioural issues.

Game Designer’s Club – Advanced

Our advanced course is a continuation of the introductory class. Students in the advanced course have much more freedom towards creating their games. Students will explore advanced topics in programming and learn about animations. The class is largely student led, as in students request specific features to be in their games and the class learns how to program those features. Students are only advised to join the advanced club if they have a firm grip on the topics covered in the introductory class.

Prerequisites: Completion of Intro class, grades 5+, students must know computer basics, must like math and logic, and must be able to focus for extended periods of time. This course is not recommended for children with behavioural issues.
